Graduate education is a major focus of the educational mission of the Schools within the Health Science Center. For the student, it represents not only learning a new body of knowledge but also learning the skills to conduct research to acquire new knowledge to benefit future generations.

  • Exercise Physiology

    The Clinical Track Master of Science program in exercise physiology provides course work and laboratory experience that prepares students for careers in adult fitness, hospital or corporate-based wellness programs, or cardiac rehabilitation. The Thesis Track Master of Science program in exercise physiology is intended to give exceptional students' knowledge in basic medical and scientific areas to prepare them for entry into advanced research intensive or professional careers.

  • Health Sciences

    The MS in Health Sciences is a 12-month, non-thesis program. The program targets students who desire to enhance their competitiveness for entry into advanced degree programs or who are interested in more in-depth study in the biomedical and public health disciplines.

  • Master of Science in Nursing

    (Formerly Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Doctor of Nursing Practice (?)) This program offers baccalaureate prepared nurses the opportunity to earn a master’s degree via our Master of Science in Nursing degree. The program offers a curriculum that allows students to enroll on a part or full-time basis. Current specialty tracks prepare students to certify as pediatric or family nurse practitioners.

  • Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Science in Business Administration (MSN/MBA)

    The WVU School of Nursing and The John Chambers College of Business & Economics have created the first off-campus dual master's degree program to give you the skills and knowledge to serve as a nurse leader. Graduates of the MSN (Executive Focus) and MBA program can work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, private practice, nonprofit organizations and public sectors.     The MPH degree in Epidemiology degree is designed for those who wish to acquire knowledge and skills necessary for epidemiologic practice and research. This degree will be appropriate for persons interested in a career studying the relationship of risk factors to a variety of disease, injury, and other health related states.

    The MPH degree in Health Policy is designed for students with a keen interest in using population-based approaches to understand and improve the health status of large groups within society. The degree is focused on examining social and political systems that influence the health status of populations and then learning how to influence and/or design, implement, and manage broad, system-level instruments to improve population health outcomes.

  • Occupational & Environmental Health Sciences (MPH)

    Upon completion of the MPH in Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences, students will be prepared to either continue their graduate education at the doctoral level, or begin a career as consultants, managers and leaders in public health practice, research settings, government or industry addressing such issues as environmental pollution related to air, water and waste, occupational health hazards, and work-related injury.

  • Biostatistics (MS)

    The Master of Science in Biostatistics Program is meant for college graduates with an interest and background in mathematics and statistics who wish to learn both the methodology and the application of biostatistics in the health sciences. M.S. students receive a more extensive methodological foundation and are expected to take additional statistical courses instead of the core public health courses required for any MPH.

    The industrial hygiene program is designed for students with undergraduate training in the areas of engineering, chemistry, biology, medical sciences, animal sciences or the physical sciences who have an interest in occupational and environmental health and safety.
