Tumor Microenvironment CoBRE Overview

The objective of the Tumor Microenvironment Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (TME CoBRE) is to create a scientifically rigorous and well-supported environment in which researchers will gain independence.  The researchers at West Virginia University Health Sciences Center collectively collaborate to maintain the high standard of scientific culture and structure while striving for innovative and synergistic approaches to research.

CoBRE Community at WVU Health Sciences Center

The CoBRE will support the development of a Center of Excellence within the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center (HSC) that will focus on studies of the tumor microenvironment (TME).  The need for such as Center is the fact that cancer mortality is a significant health disparity in the Appalachian region, specifically in the state of West Virginia.  A goal is to expand three existing Cores here while mentoring and supporting new and junior faculty within our programmatic, multidisciplinary themes.

Events

Events in support of the TME CoBRE are on going with the intent to create a rich scientific and academic environment through harmonious partnerships between researchers at WVU HSC, WV Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) and the WV Cancer Institute.  Some past events include networking meetings in which researchers are encouraged to discuss and the possibilities of new collaborations and to strengthen a cooperative spirit of team science.  Topics discussed could be resources, shared facilities, lab equipment, and future plans and goals of collaboration.
