Health Professions Education Journal Club

The Office of Faculty Development is excited to offer regularly scheduled Health Professions Education Journal Club sessions.

These sessions will explore a variety of topics in the health professions education literature, with topics carefully chosen to ensure they have relevance to faculty across the five schools of the HSC. Sessions will occur every other month on the Third Wednesday of the month at 8:00 a.m. The article will be posted to the Faculty Development website in advance of the session and will be circulated via email to anyone who has registered via the Qualtrics link.

It is our hope that these sessions will foster and help build a health professions education community of practice at the WVU HSC where faculty from across disciplines can gather and create meaningful connections while analyzing and staying up to date with the latest advances in health professions education.

For those who are based in Morgantown and available to attend in person—sessions will be held in the Faculty Development Conference Room (HSC South Room 2256). Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

For those whose clinical or teaching obligations make them unable to attend in person or you are located on a branch campus (Charleston, Eastern, Potomac State, Beckley, or Bridgeport), a zoom link will be to help you attend and connect with your colleagues. Faculty from all schools and campuses are encouraged and welcome to attend.

Faculty desiring smaller group dedicated journal club sessions for individual schools or groups with a particular interest can also be arranged by contacting Tynetta Johnson.

  • Wednesday October 16, 2024, 8 a.m. - 9 a.m.: Holistic application review
  • Wednesday December 18, 2024: 8 a.m. - 9 a.m.: Identifying the struggling learner (holiday refreshments provided)
  • Wednesday February 19, 2025: 8 a.m. - 9 a.m.: Social media and professionalism
  • April 16, 2025: 8 a.m. - 9 a.m.: Gender bias and learning
  • June 21, 2025: 8 a.m. - 9 a.m.: Digital enhancements to large group teaching
