College Mentors Needed
College Mentors needed for STEM+M Summer Camp!
The Health Science & Technology Academy (HSTA) is looking for Summer Mentors to guide West Virginia high school upcoming senior and junior students in their pursuit of higher education from July 14 - July 19, 2024, on the West Virginia University campus. Mentors live in the dorms with the students.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
• Mentors are responsible for supervising students to and from academic courses, during evening activities, and provide assistance in the classroom when requested by the instructor.
• Assist students while completing group work as well as offering guidance on college life, time management, and study skills.
• Interact on a personal level with the students and attend social activities and events.
• Promote an atmosphere conducive to balancing both academics and social activities.

- Training July 12 - 13, 2024 at WVU
Student Camp July 14 - July 19, 2024 at WVU
- Training July 12 - 13, 2024 at WVU
Positions/Salary: Stipend with Room (lodging) and Board (meals).
Night Mentor Opportunity: $715 a week, plus $50 for Training [Total $765]
Day Mentor Opportunity: $650 plus $50 training [Total $700]
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• 2 years Undergraduate Experience at WVU or another University
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience/ability to relate to a diverse high school population
• Evidence of success in college course work in science, math and/or writing
• 2.5 GPA minimum for college
• Ability to pass criminal/child abuse clearances
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience supervising and working with high school youth
• Experience tutoring math, science and writing
• Experience with disadvantage youth
• Prior participation in HSTA or similar program
• Experience in working as a team member/leader
