HSCommunity: October 2024
/ Court Side
It’s officially fall, can y’all believe it? By now we have settled into the semester and are looking for some fun and engaging activities. Here are a few recommendations:
- Ever wanted to unpack what you heard on a podcast? Join the Pod Squad! As part of Operation Blue Sky, and in partnership with others across campus, this group provides a space to explore and discuss podcasts each month.
- Women in Science and Health (WISH) is seeking new members who are doing—or want to do—incredible things in their field. This inclusive group meets monthly to collaborate and empower all women.
- The Center for Black Culture is hosting a Game Night and Tailgate during the week of Homecoming. Hang out and connect with old and new friends before the Mountaineers take on Kansas State!
- Join WVU Collegiate Recovery for their new Lunch and Learn Series with complimentary pizza and engaging, educational discussions. Students are invited to stay afterwards for an All Recovery Meeting to connect with peers and explore topics such as mental well-being, stress reduction, gratitude and more.
These are only a few of the fun things happening on campus this month. Make sure you check out the Health Sciences and WVU calendars for more events. Have a fun and SPOOKY October!

Hello from the Carruth Center’s BeWell team! We hope that fall break gives you the opportunity to rest and recover. This month, we will host several events to support student wellness and mental health; all are free, and a few don’t require registration!
- In person Lens Shifting Workshop on Oct. 28 from 12-1 p.m.
- Wellness in the Pylons on Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Virtual Burnout & Self-care Seminar on Nov. 12 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
- Check out fall Carruth Center events.
We recognize that this time of the year is often a stressful time. Therefore, the BeWell team would like to introduce a values activity to support your well-being. Identifying your personal values and exploring how they show up in your life is an important step in promoting well-being and satisfaction. We invite you to take 5-10 minutes to complete the values identification activity to get meaningful information regarding what matters to you and whether any stress or ill-being you’re experiencing currently might be related to living in a way that is inconsistent with your personal values.
