KEYSER, W. Va. – Students and faculty at the WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus recently hosted a Health and Wellness fair for WVU Potomac State College students.
Led by Drs. Kasey Beckman-Sirk and Diana Niland, the fall health fair featured three stations including nutrition tips, STI prevention, and substance effects. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students applied the knowledge they learned from their NSG 411 course during the event.

“It is always a pleasure to facilitate a wellness event on our campus and to witness the nursing students’ dedication to promoting health and wellness,” Dr. Niland said. “The nursing students were able to educate their peers about crucial topics while fostering a healthier more informed community.”
Dr. Beckman-Sirk serves as the course coordinator for NSG 411, and Dr. Niland is not only a faculty member, but she is also the nurse practitioner for Student Health at Potomac State. Students prepared for the event during their rotation with Dr. Niland and Campus Nurse Cherise Southerly as part of their NSG 411 campus-based preceptor hours. Students conducted the event as part of their NSG 411 community engagement hours.

“Drs. Beckman-Sirk and Niland work hard in developing fun, engaging ways to teach our nursing students the importance of health promotion/disease prevention principles and the impact they have on quality of life, then the students pay it forward during this event,” added Dr. April Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair.
