Love, Work and Dream Big
Cindi Roth, President and CEO of the WVU Foundation was my guest at our monthly town hall meeting. She is an amazing and spiritual person and it came out palpably in our discussion.
Cindi and her colleagues at the WVU Foundation are doing a great job. We are quickly approaching $1 billion in funds raised in this campaign, which puts our University in rare air.
Moreover, Cindi and the Foundation are aligning staff and working closely with leadership, faculty and staff at the Health Sciences Center (and university) to provide time, treasure or talent to our goal of changing the future of our state.
We also got into a lot of more personal stuff.
For instance:
- Favorite sin food – French fries (with lots of ketchup)
- Favorite meal – Salmon
- Favorite Morgantown restaurant – Tin 202
- Favorite West Virginia destination – New River Gorge
- Favorite destination for travel – Australia and diving around barrier reef
- Last movie seen – new Star Wars movie (she is also a Trekkie)
She was a critical care nurse at the University of Pittsburgh before joining their foundation team, where she quickly rose to No. 2 in their organization. After 12 years, she was offered the position of leading ours.
During our session she discussed how Doug Van Scoy hosted her, and that he and the beauty of the state and its people won her over. She is now a Mountaineer by choice.
She loves and tries to live the culture of honesty, hope, commitment to purpose and hard work.
As we were finishing, I asked her to leave our group with a final message.
To paraphrase: "Love, work and dream big."
