Resources for Medicaid advocacy

New legislation has proposed an overhaul of the Medicaid system, including cuts to funding and services. According to data from Medicaid.gov, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provide essential health coverage to nearly 80 million people in the U.S., including millions of people with disabilities, children from low-income homes, and older adults.

Please use the following resources and information to learn more about Medicaid, the proposed legislation, and how you can get involved if you so choose:

• Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) Medicaid Fact Sheet in Plain Language: Explains key terms and provides info on why Medicaid is important for people with disabilities, children, older adults and those living in rural communities.
• Caring Across Generations Protect Medicaid Toolkit: Provides facts, messaging guidance, sample messages and more for people who want to get involved as advocates for Medicaid.
• The Medicaid Defense Resource List: A collaborative effort among several agencies, this list provides several fact sheets and advocacy resources.
• Georgetown University Center for Children and Families Medicaid webinar: A free webinar taking place on March 4, 2025 at 3 p.m. EST to discuss Medicaid's positive impact on families in crisis and foster youth. Hear from people with lived experience as well as experts while learning about the impact of current Congressional deliberations about Medicaid.
• Caring Across Generations Project Medicaid bi-weekly meeting: A free, bi-weekly call to coordinate between state and national organizations to educate policymakers, and develop and share resources amongst Medicaid advocates. Next meeting is March 5, 2025 at 1 p.m. EST.
• AUCD Disability Policy News: Free newsletter distributed every two weeks that includes policy updates that affect the disability community.
