WVU Nursing students support Community Health Expo

Several members of the WVU Student Nurses’ Association participated April 16 in the second annual Community Health Expo, which offered individuals of all ages an opportunity to receive health screenings, education and more.

Sponsored by the Health Sciences Technology Academy (HSTA) Student Ambassadors and the Minorities Association of Pre-Healthcare Students (MAPS) student organization, the event featured free health screenings, as well as a free two-mile walk and one-mile kids’ run.

The Community Health Expo, which was free and open to the entire Morgantown community, was held in collaboration with the Leadership, Achievement, Engagement, and Development (LEAD) advisory council, WVU Medicine, the Council for Gender Equity, and several other campus and community organizations. Accompanying the health expo, the Council for Gender Equity hosted a Family Field Day inside the Rec Center.

“The WVU Student Nurses’ Association provided diabetes education awareness and blood pressure screenings to those who visited our table,” shared Ateria Walker, Community Outreach Chairperson for SNA. “Also, our table consisted of WVU School of Nursing free merch (hand sanitizers, mints, and pens) and pamphlets explaining WVU School of Nursing undergraduate and graduate programs.”

Walker said she enjoyed the event and looks forward to participating again next year.
