WVU School of Nursing graduate and WVU Army ROTC cadet recently commissioned as second lieutenant

WVU School of Nursing Class of 2024 graduate and Army ROTC Cadet Cherilyn Zeltman was recently commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and will serve active duty as a Nurse Corps officer.

Zeltman, of Manorville, New York, will attend Army Nursing Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, after she passes her NCLEX licensing exam. Upon graduation from BOLC she will serve a full-time three-year commitment in an Army hospital at a based to be determined.

Cadet Zeltman, who was recently commissioned as a second lietenant, graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the WVU School of Nursing.

Army ROTC is the premier leadership development program on campus and a four-year progressive leadership development program. During classes, leadership labs, physical training and field training exercises, cadets learn firsthand what it takes to lead others, motivate groups and conduct missions as an officer in the U.S. Army.

Cadets are required to complete a 38-day leadership assessment at Fort Knox, Kentucky, known as Advanced Camp. Upon earning their degrees, cadets commission as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army on Active Duty, in the Army National Guard or in the Army Reserve.

Zeltman and 13 other cadets were commissioned May 9 during the Spring Commissioning Ceremony. Maj. Gen. Johnny Davis, commanding general, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky, was the keynote speaker at the event, and Lt. Col. David Sherck, professor of military science, and Master Sgt. William O’Neal, senior military science instructor, presented the cadets for commissioning. Other cadets who were commissioned include George Bradford II, Kira Brittingham, Zachary Cannon, Madison Cesnick, Quinton Egger, Christopher Hernandez, James Higdon, Dakota Lichliter, Andrew Lichtinger, Marshall Lowman, William Turman, Carson Watts and Steven Williams.

Zeltman was joined by her family at the Spring Commissioning Ceremony hosted by WVU Army ROTC.
