WVU Student Nurses’ Association to host Trans Safe Zone Training

The West Virginia University Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) will host a Trans Safe Zone Training for the WVU School of Nursing community Sept. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. Virtual and in-person options are available.

Students and faculty are invited to the training, which offers healthcare-specific information.

“Trans Safe Zone Trainings are important because transgender patients are a demographic we are likely to encounter in our careers, yet they are one of the least talked about minorities,” said Kali Fischer, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) representative for SNA.

“Many transgender individuals avoid seeking out any form of healthcare due to facing discrimination in the past from providers,” Fischer explained. “Helping to understand the community will help us to provide the best care we can give to our patients and show we are a safe space for ALL patients to receive unbiased and accepting care.”

The training will be held in person at HSC Room 3005. To receive Zoom login information, please contact Kali Fischer.
