Connecting Food, Health and Communities

Advancing Food is Medicine and food system innovation through research, education, and partnerships that connect healthcare, communities and West Virginia’s food and agriculture system.

Food System Innovation Through Education, Research, and Outreach

Nourish West Virginia (NWV), an initiative based at the West Virginia University Institute for Community and Rural Health, is a leader in food system innovation through education, research, and outreach. NWV's collaborative work seeks to align health, agriculture, and leadership from institutions and communities to increase public health and economic security across West Virginia and Central Appalachia.

Our work

Nourish West Virginia brings together healthcare, communities, research, and West Virginia's food and agriculture sector to build a sustainable Food is Medicine ecosystem—improving health, building capacity, and strengthening local food systems through education, evidence, partnerships, and values-based procurement.

Education & Workforce

Through its network, Nourish offers educational opportunities for graduate and professional students, plus career and up skill training for working people.

Good Ground

This statewide collaborative effort is central to NWV's outreach efforts. Based at the West Virginia University Institute for Community and Rural Health, Good Ground brings together transdisciplinary scholars with other national, regional and community collaborators to improve health through food system innovation using a values-based procurement approach.
