We want West Virginia to be the healthiest state
As a land-grant institution, West Virginia University is deeply committed to serving the people of West Virginia, and at Health Sciences, we embrace that mission every day. Our students engage in rural rotations, physicians provide care to local communities, and students work with cutting-edge technology and the latest medical techniques. Everything we do has a direct impact on the health and well-being of our state.
Our goal is clear: to reduce the burden of illness and disease, and to make West Virginians healthier, happier, and safer. This begins by recognizing opportunities for change and taking the initiative to bring that change to life.
A network of care, rooted in service
At WVU Health Sciences, our commitment to community extends far beyond the classroom. The Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health are deeply engaged in outreach and service, working to improve health outcomes across West Virginia and around the world. From local clinics and rural health initiatives to global service-learning experiences, our students and faculty are making a real impact where it’s needed most.
This dedication is echoed across the WVU Medicine network, which includes the WVU Cancer Institute, Heart and Vascular Institute, Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, Critical Care Institute and WVU Medicine Children’s. Together, we address major health issues—such as heart disease, cancer, neurological conditions, substance use disorder and obesity—by delivering high-quality, specialized care.
As a student, you’ll gain hands-on experience while contributing to efforts that tackle health disparities. WVU Health Sciences combines advanced education with real-world engagement, empowering the next generation of healthcare leaders.
Centers & Institutes
Our centers and institutes offer students hands-on opportunities in healthcare research and practice. With access to state-of-the-art resources and interdisciplinary collaboration, students can engage in impactful projects and advance their careers in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and more.
