Committing to Engagement
At West Virginia University Health Sciences, we’re focused on fostering a welcoming environment for students, faculty and staff. Our commitment extends across our University and into the communities we serve. In collaboration with The Division of Campus Engagement and Compliance, we strive to cultivate a campus culture that is safe, curious and engaging.
Our health priorities are tied to the needs of our citizens. As the state’s only comprehensive academic health sciences center, WVU brings together educators, health professionals and scientists that work together to advance human health and well-being.
- Operation Blue Sky: creating a safe, fun and curious WV Health Sciences
- BeWell: Confidential. Compassionate. Convenient. BeWell offers mental health services to students on the Health Sciences Campus.
- Well-Being: We believe that all Mountaineers deserve the opportunity to reach their greatest potential and to find meaning and purpose in their lives. We support our community along many paths to well-being
- Bonnie’s Bus: Bonnie’s Bus is a mobile mammography unit that provides breast cancer screening throughout West Virginia, especially in rural parts of the state with limited or no access to screening mammography.
- MUSHROOM: This program brings together medical, nursing, dental, social work and other health professional volunteers on "street rounds". We go by foot to those places where we are needed most: along the rivers and creeks, down the back alleys of downtown, and under the bridges.
- Nourish WV:
- Merit Badge University: Scouts from across the region explore careers in health care to earn their Health Care Professions Merit Badge as well as discipline-specific merit badges in dentistry.
- Destination Dentistry: In the spring, aspiring dentists spend a fast-paced day walking the same path our current students take toward realizing dreams of becoming clinically excellent, compassionate practitioners.

Elevating Health Solutions from Our Values
Across Health Sciences, we continue to offer and enhance educational opportunities in ethics and cultural competency practice [link out to Enrichment Tools & Training portion of resource page]. By participating in these learning experiences, students and faculty can grow professionally and be better prepared to treat patients with compassionate, patient-centered care.
