WVU School of Nursing alum joins Dean’s Advisory Council
Levi Wichterman, a West Virginia University School of Nursing alum, has been announced as the most recent addition to the Dean’s Advisory Council.
Wichterman, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) graduate from the WVU School of Nursing, is a long-time WVU Medicine employee who currently works for the WVU Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine as a senior advanced practice provider.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be invited to join the Dean's Advisory Council,” Wichterman said. “I am hopeful to be able to positively contribute to the continued success of the WVU SON.”
According to Wichterman, the Dean’s Advisory Council is responsible for strategically planning for the future of nursing education, practice, service and research in West Virginia and the global community, as well as providing unique perspectives to directly support and contribute to the goals of Dean Tara Hulsey.
In addition to his recent invitation to the board, Wichterman’s passion for health and nursing has led him to many leadership opportunities in his field. Wichterman is a Major in the United States Airforce Reserve, a member of the WVU Department of Emergency Medicine Acute Resource Group, a representative on the WVU Medicine Department of Advanced Practice Council and the owner-operator of an independent medical contracting company based in Morgantown.
Wichterman attributes his successes in the field to his time at WVU saying, “As my professional endeavors continue forward, my WVU School of Nursing alumni status remains the base of my foundation.”
While he is a jack of all trades, at the heart of it all, Wichterman is dedicated to his family life. He has three children with his wife and fellow alum, Mary Wichterman. The couple got engaged during the first year of their MSN program, married during the second year, and then had their son during the third year, making them the first married couple to graduate from the program together to this date.
Wichterman has been with WVU Medicine for 16 years and is excited to bring his ideas and perspectives to the Dean’s Advisory Council. Wichterman said, “I am hopeful my experience and connection with the WVU School of Nursing as well as my current clinical practice in the state of West Virginia will allow me to bring a unique perspective to the board for thought or discussion.”
