Egyptian delegates visit WVU Health Sciences to discuss collaboration opportunities

West Virginia University recently welcomed two high-ranking officers of the Egyptian government to campus.

Ali Massoud, director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau of the Embassy of Egypt, and Anwar Mahmoud Mohamed, deputy for national projects at the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, visited the WVU Health Sciences campus in Morgantown in March 2022 for a tour of the David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) and the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. This marked Massound’s second visit to the WVU campus this year.

During their visit, the delegates expressed interest in multiple collaboration opportunities with WVU Health Sciences, as they were impressed with the expertise and technology innovations at these two sites.

“Egypt is an important partner in the future strategy of internationalizing WVU, and there is much to learn through strong partnerships between the University and academic research and medical institutions in Egypt,” said Allie Karshenas, Ph.D., associate vice president of the WVU Health Sciences Global Engagement Office.

“It is truly pleasing to see how impressive our university institutions are in showcasing their value propositions to our international visitors,” said David Stewart, D.Phil., associate provost for international relations.

Stewart, who accompanied the delegates on their tour, oversees international relations and international strategic planning, including fostering relationships with embassies located in Washington, D.C.
