Gao named interim chair for the Department of Biostatistics

Weimin Gao, MS, MPH, PhD, chair of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Biostatistics, effective March 1, 2020.

"Since joining our faculty as chair of the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences, Gao has demonstrated that he is an effective leader and strong advocate for students and faculty members," School of Public Health Dean Jeffrey Coben said. "In this role, he will help advance the Department of Biostatistics as the School continues to build capacity and academic offerings for students."

In addition to assuming this new role, Gao will continue to serve as chair of the Department of Occupational and Enivronmental Health Sciences, a role he has held since 2018. Gao also serves on the faculty in the WVU Cancer Institute Research Programs Department.

Prior to joining the WVU School of Public Health, Gao served as a tenured associate professor and associate chair in the Department of Environmental Toxicology and the Institute of Environmental and Human Health at Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He earned a PhD in Environmental and Occupational Health and MS in Biostatistics from the University of Pittsburgh and a BM in Preventive Medicine and MPH in Occupational Medicine and Toxicology in China.
