Training Opportunities
The Shirley M. Kimble Training Center at WVU Safety and Health Extension offers dynamic, quality continuing education to healthcare providers and basic and advanced life support training for lay rescuers. More than 400 affiliated instructors have trained more than 3,000 participants annually since 1992. Courses include American Heart Association-ACLS, PALS, Basic Life Support (BLS), Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED; AMLS; PHTLS; and EMT.
The WVU Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services offers Mental Health 101 training to all students, faculty and staff. The virtual session, designed to teach individuals how to help students in distress, focuses on current data, effective listening skills, services provided by the Carruth Center and the CARE Team, warning signs of suicide and how to safely intervene with students who are in distress.
WELLWVU promotes wellness education on campus through trainings for students, faculty and staff. Available opportunities include alcohol education, mental health, emotional well-being, Narcan (naloxone) and intervention procedures.
Additional On Campus Health Services
The Health Sciences Campus in Morgantown includes WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital and other clinical facilities associated with WVU Medicine, all of which are accessible to students. In addition to Student Health Services, the Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic and Travel Medicine Clinic are located on the Evansdale Campus, the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Clinic and WVU Dental clinic are located in the Health Sciences Center and a WVU Eye Institute clinic is located on campus. Additional WVU Medicine specialty institutes and clinics are also available on campus.
Mountaineer Pharmacy provides prescription services (including delivery via mail) and carries a selection of over-the-counter medications and supplies. The pharmacy is conveniently located across from the Student Rec Center, near WVU Student Health.
Mountaineer Pharmacy accepts most insurance plans, offers competitive pricing strategies and can accept Mounty Bounty as payment for prescriptions or over-the-counter medications. Pharmacists are available to provide students with medication counseling, help synchronize their medications and offer pill packing services. They can also assist students by contacting their doctor if they need authorization for refills.
