WVU Student Health Overview

Know before you go.

Whether you're staying close to home or traveling internationally this spring break, take steps to prepare so you can stay safe and healthy during your trip.

Stay up to date.

Make sure you are up to date on routine vaccines. Some diseases are not common in the United States due to routine vaccination but are still common in other countries.

Be informed.

Know how to get medical care abroad if you are sick or injured. Check your health insurance for international travel coverage. Know the health risks at your destination. Learn local warning systems, evacuation routes and shelters. Preparation can help avoid physical illnesses as well as mental stress.

Pack a health kit.

Bring a kit with items you may need, especially those items that may be difficult to find at your destination. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines – enough to last your whole trip, plus a little extra. First-aid supplies should include bandages and antiseptic. Remember insurance cards and copies of prescriptions.

Have a plan.

Be prepared if an emergency occurs while you are traveling. Keep a list of emergency contacts with you and share travel plans and important documents with your designated contact person in case you lose them during travel.
