Virtual farewell event set for Feb. 24 for Dr. Nathan Pauly

Nathan Pauly, PhD, director of Medicaid Research and Evaluation in the Office of Health Affairs, will be leaving his position with West Virginia University on Feb. 24.

Dr. Pauly, who joined WVU in the spring of 2018, has been instrumental in strengthening the State-University partnership between WVU and WV Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). Serving as an embedded analyst within the WV DHHR Bureau for Medical Services in Charleston, Dr. Pauly has made tremendous strides toward strengthening the agency’s capacity to use data to drive decision-making and performance improvement. A part of that work included Dr. Pauly developing a program for WVU analysts to support the WV DHHR Bureau for Medical Services in analyzing data to inform data-driven strategic decision making for the WV Medicaid population.

Dr. Pauly also helped develop and implement a data sharing MOU between the State and WVU, facilitating improved access to Medicaid claims data for faculty researchers and students that assist the State with priority analytical requests. Additionally, he led an evaluation of the medical home model for Medicaid members with diabetes – the findings of which are being used to direct care services for the Medicaid population in our state.

Please join the Office of Health Affairs in thanking Dr. Pauly for his contributions and wishing him well in his next chapter. A virtual farewell event will be held at 5 p.m. on Feb. 24. If you would like to attend, please contact Barkley Castro for additional details.
