WVU Facilities: A note about seasonal temperature changes

A reminder to all that we are at a point in the year that you may hear complaints about the buildings being hot or cold; this is typically due to outdoor temperature swings. Facilities Management will be monitoring the weather forecasts, systems, and building temperatures as these weather transitions occur. Your patience is greatly appreciated on those days when it might be a little cooler or warmer than normal inside our facilities as we go into the winter season.

Facilities Management asks for your cooperation as we move into the upcoming breaks and colder weather to help us monitor and prepare our buildings for freezing temperatures.

  • If you should encounter any cold spaces in your facilities as outside temperatures drop over the next few weeks, please submit a service request or contact the Facilities Management Helpline at 304-293-HELP so that we can investigate the issue.
  • Freezing temperatures can cause a building’s pipes to rupture causing significant and costly water damage to the building and equipment.
  • Building windows generally should be shut when outside temperatures near freezing levels. Be sure all windows are closed if individuals are not in a room or when occupants leave for the day.
  • Exterior doors should not be propped or blocked open because this allows cold air migration which can freeze piping systems in entrances.

Your support to keep our campus buildings safe and functioning properly over the winter season is very appreciated!  Please share this information with all, thank you.
