Conference Theme: “Innovation in Action!”

Innovation in Action highlights the creative and scholarly efforts of graduate health professions learners who are advancing teaching and learning in meaningful ways. This showcase celebrates emerging 'NextGen' educators who are translating ideas into impact and shaping the future of healthcare education across West Virginia.

What Kind of Submission Ideas Could be Included?

Scholarly innovation or educational research submissions may include, but are not limited to, studies on:

  • Novel teaching strategies for clinic or classroom

  • Peer-teaching based learning

  • Simulation-based learning

  • Tech use in HPE (AI tools, virtual learning, etc.)

  • Educational approaches for Patient education/Patient support

  • Evaluation or survey tool development

  • Education effectiveness studies

  • Education quality improvement studies

  • Teaching and learning outcomes in clinic

  • Professional identity formation

What is the Proposal Review Criteria?

All submissions will be peer reviewed in a supportive review process, by a committee with a wide range of experiences, designed for emerging educators. Poster submissions will be evaluated based on:

  1. Proposal quality: The written proposal is clear, complete, and well-organized. Clear proposals concisely explain the topic, goals, objectives, and format and are understandable for someone not familiar with the content area (avoid jargon). The title matches the description and is relevant, original, and intriguing.

  2. Purpose: The proposal includes clear goals/purpose and describes the benefit to the audience of learners just like you. All structured poster proposal items are provided.

  3. Relevance to Health Professions Education: The proposal offers important results, creative or innovative practice or development, and/or an opportunity to enhance insights on a relevant or timely topic in health professions education. It is generalizable and portable; it includes strengths and weaknesses. Conclusions are well supported. Suggestions are offered for further study.

  4. Preparation: The proposal is well-grounded in a theoretical/conceptual framework, relevant literature, and/or prior work. It demonstrates authors’ familiarity with the topic. The methods match the intended purpose of the proposed presentation.

  5. Engagement: The proposal describes methods/activities and a detailed plan to engage the viewer, encourage reflection and critique, and achieve the goals/purpose of the poster. Format and content should fit the poster requirements.

  6. Membership Appeal: The proposal represents work that or addresses a topic /issue that is relevant or appealing to WV students currently in a health professions program.

At least one author must register and be present during the poster session to discuss their work and engage in collegial dialogue with faculty and peers.
