Professional Development
HSTA offers our teachers, field site coordinators (FSC's), governing board members, and staff regular opportunities to participate in professional development workshops and retreats.
Our primary mechanism for professional development is the HSTA Fall Professional Development Workshop for teachers and FSCs. Participants spend a full day learning the HSTA structure and how to mentor, lead after-school clubs, and help students conduct community-focused research that meets Institutional Review Board (IRB) standards.
Teachers and FCS's engage in hands-on activities that mimic elements of the after-school club program. Many of these reflect HSTA's research focus. Others encourage networking, storytelling, and the sharing of best practices.
If you are a teacher in one of our regions and would like to discuss helping with HSTA in anyway, please contact the field site coordinator in your region.
