The West Virginia University School of Nursing is hosting a spring 2022 Virtual Open House for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program Thursday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.
2022 Herbert W. Nickens Awards
The AAMC is soliciting nominations for its annual Herbert W. Nickens Awards. These awards honor individuals who advance the educational, societal, and health care needs of racial and ethnic minorities in the United States. We encourage you to disseminate this call for nominations and consider colleagues and students for these awards. The nomination deadline for the three awards below is April 1, 2022.
“A Long Talk About the Uncomfortable Truth”
A collaborative group across WVU is planning to bring the program “A Long Talk About the Uncomfortable Truth” to WVU’s campus. A Long Talk About The Uncomfortable Truth is an anti-racism activation experience. This session will take place Feb. 15 and Feb. 22, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
WVU in the News: Local nurses process pandemic experience through a paintbrush
MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) - Painting a new path to covid recovery, WVU School of Nursing staff is using art to process pandemic experience. Dr. Brad Phillips, who chairs the school of nursing curriculum committee, was tasked to bring the foundation of liberal arts back into the nursing curriculum. Philips and a small working group developed a liberal arts toolbox to give faculty different ideas to incorporate into their teaching.
Application for 2022 AGE-ADAR paid Summer Research Internship open
The application for the 2022 AGE-ADAR Summer Research Program is still open for underrepresented students in MSTEM fields who are preparing for a future career in health or research.
WVU School of Nursing DEI Committee to host February Journal Club
On Tuesday, Feb. 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. via Zoom, the WVU School of Nursing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will host its February Journal Club. Led by Journal Club facilitator Angel Smothers, a discussion will be held on ways to integrate care strategies for gender diverse patients into nursing curricula.
Certification opportunity for Health Sciences students: "Community Action Poverty Simulation"
The HSC Office of Interprofessional Education and the Schools of Public Health and Pharmacy, in partnership with the WV STEPS Center, are offering a new certification. All Health Sciences students are encouraged to complete the two-hour Community Action Poverty Simulation to secure this certification.
Young Mountaineers learn how to locate a heartbeat in an interactive display hosted by the WVU School of Nursing at WVU Day at the Legislature
With the help of two West Virginia University School of Nursing faculty, dozens of young Mountaineers learned how to locate and hear a heartbeat on SAM, a Student Auscultation Manikin from the WV STEPS Center, during the 2022 WVU Day at the Legislature.

Anna Nicoloudakis was recently recognized for 40 years of service at West Virginia University School of Nursing.
Stacie Honaker appointed risk manager/privacy officer for WVU Health Sciences
Stacie D. Honaker, J.D., has been named the risk manager and privacy officer for WVU Health Sciences Center. She replaces Sandra Price who recently retired after more than 30 years with the University.
