WVU coronavirus (COVID-19) news for March 7, 2022.
Masks optional in WVU classrooms and labs, required in patient care areas
West Virginia University will lift mask requirements for individuals, regardless of vaccination status, in classrooms and labs across the WVU System beginning Tuesday, March 8. Masks will continue to be required for employees, patients and visitors in designated areas of the Health Sciences Center where patient care services are provided. Additionally, WVU employees and students involved in patient care, including residents, fellows and students, are required to follow separate WVU Health System or other clinical provider’s policies, including those related to COVID-19, such as masks, PPE and vaccinations. Masks will also continue to be required for those conducting and participating in face-to-face human subject research activities.
Saving Lives: WVU School of Nursing students learn how to administer opioid overdose reversal medication
Nearly 30 West Virginia University School of Nursing students recently learned how to administer naloxone, the potentially lifesaving opioid overdose medication.

U.S. Public Health Service Rear Admiral encourages dental students to network and consider overall wellness of patients
The chief dental officer for the United States Public Health Service touched on multiple facets of a career in dentistry while recently visiting West Virginia University School of Dentistry.
WVU in the News: WVU School of Nursing training nurses to meet staff shortages in state, beyond
MORGANTOWN, W.V. – West Virginia University is building a pipeline of nurses to fill the shortage in health care systems across the country. On multiple campuses, the School of Nursing is meeting students where they are, from Morgantown to Keyser, Beckley to Charleston and Bridgeport. The school is seeking students in undergraduate programs, online graduate programs and continuing education.
WVU in the News: Local "Hometown Heroes" recognized by West Virginia Can't Wait
WVU School of Public Health PhD student, Rosalina Mills, was one of 40 to be named Hometown Heroes by West Virginia Can't Wait, a movement to win a people's government, for having the "courage to do what government fails to do."
