Community Notice: WVU to adjust in-person class schedule, operations Friday, Feb. 4
In-person classes with a start time prior to 10 a.m. are canceled on West Virginia University’s Morgantown campus Friday, Feb. 4, due to anticipated inclement weather and worsening road conditions. WVU Health Sciences faculty, staff and students who are working in patient care areas or in clinical rotations should check with their dean, program director or clinic manager.

WVU In the News: Study finds elderly near fracking sites at higher risk of dying prematurely
A new study has found that elderly Americans had a higher risk of dying prematurely if they live near or downwind of fracking sites. The authors looked at Medicare records for 15 million Americans between 2001 and 2015, and compared them to records of 2.5 million oil and gas wells.
Still R1: WVU maintains standing as a highest-level research institution
West Virginia University remains one of the top research institutions in the nation, according to the just-released 2021 rankings by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. WVU is one of only 146 colleges and universities to attain a ranking of R1, or very high research activity. The designation is the most elite category for research-focused institutions.
