Chemotherapy’s effectiveness may vary with time of day, suggests WVU research
The blood-brain barrier keeps foreign substances from entering the brain. That’s good when it comes to toxins and germs, but it makes treating tumors in the brain trickier. By shielding the brain from things that would harm it, the blood-brain barrier also blocks the chemotherapy that would help it. William Walker—a researcher with the West Virginia University School of Medicine—is investigating whether the blood-brain barrier is more likely to admit chemotherapy drugs at different times of day.

WVU Student Nurses Association (SNA) to host conversation about ethnic hair
The West Virginia University Student Nurses Association (SNA) will host a conversation about ethnic hair, including hair care and struggles in personal and professional life due to ethnic hair. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their experiences. Protective hairstyle demonstrations will also be offered at the event.
LGBTQ Health Week Lecture Series
The WVUSOM LGBTQ Health Week Lecture Series is coming next week (Feb 1-3) and is sponsored by SHAPE (Student Healthcare Alliance for Promoting Equality).
Upcoming enhancements to WVU’s MyTravel program
As part of efforts to enhance the user experience for faculty and staff who travel on behalf of West Virginia University, the Procurement, Contracting and Payment Services (PCPS) is transitioning to American Express Global Business Travel as WVU’s standard travel management company, effective Monday, Feb. 14.
