An anonymous donor’s gift will ensure that, although they aren’t on campus, students enrolled at West Virginia University can reach out to the Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services through a 24/7 crisis text line to receive immediate assistance from a live, trained counselor – especially if they feel overwhelmed by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even before West Virginia reported its first case of the novel coronavirus, Dr. Sally Hodder and her team recognized the need for a COVID-19 patient data registry. It was after attending a January conference at the National Institutes of Health when Hodder, an infectious disease specialist who lived through the 1980s AIDS/HIV epidemic, predicted with confidence that we’d soon have a pandemic on our hands.
