All new students in the West Virginia University School of Public Health had the chance to connect before classes officially started on Wednesday, August 26.
‘We Are Stronger Together’ scholarships aid students affected by COVID-19
“We Are Stronger Together,” a special fundraising initiative launched by the WVU Foundation, is providing nearly $80,000 in scholarship support for students in need. Ivanov Laboratory receives US Patent for new antibody cancer research tool
The researchers developed a unique antibody tool that identifies hundreds of members of C2H2 zinc finger proteins. Furthermore, they used this antibody to discover that many ZNF proteins are overexpressed in breast cancer.

According to Charles Anderson—a researcher with the West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute—scientists have known for over half a century that charged zinc atoms have something to do with neuronal chatter. With anxiety and depression on the rise amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, a West Virginia University-led study seeks to identify mental health issues and test online treatments among West Virginians at home – particularly those in rural areas, where access to clinical services is limited.
New blood, new hope: Transfusions protect the brain from stroke damage, according to WVU neuroscience research
In the study, led by Xuefang “Sophie” Ren, research assistant professor in the Department of Neuroscience, the team found that blood substitution therapy rescues the brains of mice from ischemic damage. Their article is published in Nature Communications.
