WVU, WV attorney general expand eighth grade drug prevention program
West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey and West Virginia University have partnered to expand a program aimed at sharing drug abuse prevention information with eighth grade students in West Virginia. The initiative, launched in March with the West Virginia University School of Nursing, now also involves West Virginia University’s School of Pharmacy and two other universities.
Mindful Morsel series resumes Oct. 10
The Mindfulness Work Group at WVU Health Sciences is pleased to offer Mindful Morsels, a series of talks aimed at providing the community with opportunities to learn more about mindfulness and explore practical applications that can improve our sense of connection and compassion.
Global Health Week at WVU Health Sciences to be held Sept. 25-29
The School of Medicine will kick-off the 2017 Global Health Week on Sept. 25 with daily lectures and featuring a preview of the documentary, “Clinica De Migrantes: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” on Wed., Sept. 27 at noon. Lunch is provided to those who RSVP by Sept. 15.

Rainelle project offers hope to people overcoming addiction
Seeds of Recovery, in Rainelle, West Virginia, offers a training program to men and women in the West Virginia drug court system who are overcoming addiction. “Seeds of Recovery is often the last chance for our students to do something—meaning if they don’t, the alternative could be jail time,” said Elizabeth Reynolds, West Virginia University Extension Service Nutrition Outreach Instructor.
WVU, Uniformed Services University form unique collaboration to combat the opioid epidemic
Drawing from the latest strategies and techniques in battlefield medicine, leaders from West Virginia University are collaborating with the Uniformed Services University’s Defense and Veterans Center for Integrative Pain Management (DVCIPM) to combat opioid misuse and addiction in the state of West Virginia.
Cancer Institute’s Cancer Prevention and Control wins first place ribbons
Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC) program staff won two first place ribbons at the 2017 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Cancer Conference in Atlanta this August. They were invited to present three posters for the overall National conference and an oral presentation for the CDC Colorectal Cancer Control Program Meeting. Two posters, noted below, won first place ribbons.
