Nationally recognized pediatrician to present at Medicine Grand Rounds

Surenda Varma, M.D., vice chair, Pediatrics and distinguished professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, will present "Thank God There is a Hole in Donut -- Current Initiatives in Childhood Obesity" as part of the Charaka Lectureship. The lecture will begin at 8 a.m., Friday, Oct. 28 in Fukushima Auditorium, located on the first floor of the WVU Health Sciences Center. 

Startup invites health professionals and public to opening Oct. 4

President E. Gordon Gee will officially welcome healthcare startup Good Measures to the WVU Health Sciences Innovation Center, at an open house from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 4. The Boston-based company established an office earlier this year WVU, located in the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Center building on the Health Sciences campus.

WVU School of Medicine student named Pisacano Scholar

Darrin Nichols, a fourth-year West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine student, has been named a 2016 Pisacano Scholar by the American Board of Family Medicine. It is a prestigious award given annually to only five medical students across the country.

WVU Telepsychiatry program receives $1.2 million to partner with school-based health centers

West Virginia University’s Telepsychiatry Program received a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) which awarded a total of nearly $1.2 million over the course of four years to collaborate with rural school-based health centers focusing on pediatric mental and physical health care in Barbour, McDowell and Pocahontas counties and a community-based organization, Power House, in Wyoming county.
