Biostatistics Monthly Seminar scheduled for Nov. 16

The SPH Department of Biostatistics will host its next monthly seminar on Nov. 16. Eugenie Jackson, PhD, research associate in the WVU Department of Biostatistics, will present “Two Recent Algorithms to Infer Structure in Longitudinal Vaginal Microbiome Data” from 2:45-4:00pm in G274 HSN-South.

WVU, community groups to host screening of ‘Heroin(e)’ documentary and discussion on opioid epidemic

Several West Virginia University and community groups are joining efforts to discuss the Morgantown area’s approach to combatting the opioid epidemic. The WVU School of Public Health, Milan Puskar Health Right, the Monongalia County Health Department, WVU Collegiate Recovery Program, and WVU Student Government Association will host a November 16 community screening of the Netflix original short documentary “Heroin(e),” followed by a moderated panel discussion and audience Q&A. West Virginia Public Broadcasting is supporting the event.

Students ready to be leaders in ASDA

Every student in the WVU School of Dentistry is a member of the local chapter of the American Student Dental Association. WVU ASDA is made up of approximately 220 students.

Town hall to focus on children’s health

Pediatric physician J. Philip Saul, M.D., will be the special guest at an open forum for Health Sciences and WVU Medicine faculty, staff and students at noon on Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Okey Patteson Auditorium of the WVU Health Sciences Center. The topic will be, "WVU Medicine Children’s and the Health of West Virginia."

WVU to hold inaugural Day of Giving Nov. 8

One day. The words suggest a moment and a future. Both are being emphasized on Nov. 8 as WVU is reaching out to students, alumni and friends, encouraging them to make a gift – especially ones that go to the general, unrestricted needs of the University and its schools and colleges.

WVU School of Dentistry to lead fight against oral cancer and tobacco addiction

Working in cooperation with the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center Office of Interprofessional Education, representatives from the WVU School of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, WVU Cancer Institute and others will be involved in the WVU tobacco treatment training program. It is designed to have healthcare professionals be on the same page for evidence-based treatment of addiction.
