Public Health guest lecturer to speak on hangovers, trauma recidivism and gambling
Gordon S. Smith, M.B., Ch.B., M.P.H., will present “Hangovers, trauma recidivism and gambling: Importance of data linkage” at 1 p.m. Friday, May 22, in room 1905 of the Health Sciences Center.
WVU creates new doctoral degree in clinical and translational science
The new doctor of philosophy degree in clinical and translational science will consist of courses guided by a highly flexible framework tailored to each student's interest and background. Students will also conduct research in basic, population and clinical sciences. The degree will require 99 credit hours to complete.
Haut named chair of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry
Following a national search, the WVU School of Medicine has chosen one of its own faculty members, Marc W. Haut, Ph.D., A.B.P.P., to serve as the chair of the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry. Dr. Haut was named interim chair in August 2014 while also serving as Psychology section chief, program director of neuropsychology, research advisor and professor in the Departments of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, Neurology and Radiology.
WVU D.D.S. Class of 2015 makes donation to support Health Right patients
The West Virginia University School of Dentistry Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) Class of 2015 just couldn’t wait until their tassels were turned to start caring for West Virginians’ oral health. The 48 students in the graduating class donated more than $700 to the We Care Fund to help underprivileged people receive care at the WVU Dental Care clinic.
WVU Dentistry provides care in Guatemala
A team of 13 dentists and dentists-in-training from the WVU School of Dentistry spent a week in and around San Lucas, Guatemala, providing free dental care to the rural population.
WVU Health Sciences Center welcomes first student from Ukrainian university
Oleh Bodilovskyi is the first student from the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (NTUU “KPI”) to visit the WVU Health Sciences Center through the memorandum of understanding between the two universities that took effect this January.

WVU School of Medicine mourns the loss of faculty pioneer
The West Virginia University community joined the School of Medicine in mourning the loss of a faculty pioneer, Dr. Bill Fleming. Fleming, and his wife Dolores, died Wednesday, April 29 at their home in Tionesta, Pa. According to a news report, they were the victims of a carbon monoxide accident.
