Project Lazarus director to discuss opioid overdose prevention for WVU Public Health Dialogues
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia University School of Public Health will host Fred Brason for the next installment of its Public Health Dialogues Speaker Series at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 in Room 1905 of the WVU Health Sciences Center. Brason is the executive director of the North Carolina-based Project Lazarus, a comprehensive, community-based opioid overdose prevention program. He provides management, education, and tools that medical providers, law enforcement officers, schools, and communities can use to tighten supply, reduce demand, and provide harm reduction to save lives from the misuse, abuse, and diversion of prescription opioid drugs.
Program ACTIVE seeks participants to help study diabetes and depression
November is National Diabetes Month, and a research study out of the West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Exercise Physiology hopes to find the best treatment for an issue facing one out of every four people with type 2 diabetes: depression.
WVU Dentistry student wins research award
Sawan Prabhu, a fourth-year Doctor of Dental Surgery student in the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, was one of eight students from across the country and Canada to win an award at the 20th Hinman Student Research Symposium, which was held Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Memphis, Tenn.

Program celebrates 25th anniversary
The WVU School of Pharmacy celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the Ph.D. program in Health Outcomes Research Oct. 24-25. Program alumni and current students were invited to a weekend event that included a celebration dinner, career panel discussion and a student research poster presentation judged by alumni.
