Expression through Art: Through painting, WVU School of Nursing students, faculty and staff illustrate how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted them
The COVID-19 pandemic has been emotionally, physically and mentally challenging, especially for nurses. To help students, faculty and staff find a healthy way to express themselves, West Virginia University School of Nursing Clinical Education Assistant Professor Brad Phillips recently hosted an art project called, “What COVID-19 Means to Me.”
WVU Medicine updates masking policy
Based on updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about masking, WVU Medicine is strongly encouraging non-clinical staff who do not work in patient care areas to switch to a medical-grade mask and not use cloth masks.
Update: Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) COVID-19 vaccine requirement
In early December 2021, the WVU Health System announced that it would pause its COVID-19 vaccine requirement for employees and other healthcare workers, as two federal district courts issued orders that temporarily prohibited the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from enforcing its new requirement that all healthcare providers – including health systems, hospitals, and clinics – vaccinate their employees against COVID-19 as a condition of participating in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

HSC update: Student Activity Center to be closed
The Student Activity Center will be closed beginning Friday, January 21, to be used for N-95 mask fit testing for three weeks. An announcement will be released when the center is set to reopen for student use.
WVU School of Dentistry scholarship aids students engaged in research, honors longtime faculty member
A $10,000 gift from Dr. Bryan and Carol Whitaker established the Bouquot Scholarship for Excellence in Research. The scholarship rewards dental students from West Virginia for excellence and creativity in oral health research.
Online program can help nurses learn how to promote holistic health in faith-based communities
West Virginia University School of Nursing is offering “Foundations of Faith Community Nursing” — an online continuing professional development course for individuals interested in helping to address the unique health-related needs within faith community settings.
