Members of the West Virginia University School of Public Health have been selected to speak at a national conference in early November.
WVU to research cell phone law effectiveness
West Virginia University researchers are looking at the effectiveness of laws that deal with cell phone use and driving.
Paper written by School of Public Health personnel accepted for publication
“Bridging the Divide between Policy Makers and Public Health Researchers,” a paper written by Thomas Bias, PhD, Christiaan Abildso, PhD, Emily Vasile, MPA, and Jessica Coffman, MA, was recently selected as a contest winner. The manuscript looks at ways to successfully connect public health researchers and policymakers. The contest, sponsored by the American Public Health Association American Planning Association, and Georgia Tech, accepted six papers total. The paper will be published through the Built Environment and Public Health Clearinghouse later this fall.
WVU to study violence against young workers
West Virginia University researchers are creating the first comprehensive national profile of workplace violence against teenagers and young adults.
Public Health Dialogues Speaker Series event taking place Nov. 6
Public Health Dialogues will host Sally Morton, Ph.D., on Friday, Nov. 6, in room 1905, Health Sciences Center North. Dr. Morton is professor and chair in the University of Pittsburgh Biostatistics Graduate School of Public Health. She is also director of the Health Policy Institute's Comparative Effectiveness Research Center.

The 29th Annual Mid-Atlantic Conference on Worksite Wellness will take place on Oct. 8 and 9 at Morgantown’s Waterfront Place. The event is one of the longest running conferences dedicated to worksite wellness and health prevention on the east coast.
Influenza vaccine required for state employees working in patient care areas
WVU Medicine's mandatory influenza vaccination program has been extended to include state employees (WVU) working in WVUH/UHA clinical areas. This includes those whose work requires them to enter patient care areas intermittently, even if their main work location is elsewhere.
Scientist welcomes challenges from students
"Question authority. Even mine." That's the message WVU neuroscience researcher Dr. James Simpkins has for students and young scientists. Simpkins will deliver the Benedum Distinguished Scholar lecture at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Erickson Alumni Center.
