WVU in the News: West Virginia Junior Nursing Academy inspires future SWV nurses
The WVU School of Nursing Beckley Campus and WVU Tech hosted the southern West Virginia Junior Nursing Academy to rising eighth, ninth and tenth graders. Students visited Raleigh General Hospital and Appalachian Regional Hospital, as well as learned CPR skills, visiting with AirEvac professionals and more. An award ceremony concluded the camp on June 18.
WVU School of Nursing’s DNP Nurse Anesthetist program receives highest level, 10-year accreditation
The WVU School of Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing Practice Nurse Anesthetist program has received the highest accreditation status available, a total of 10 years, by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
WVU School of Nursing students travel to Honduras as part of a medical mission team
Nurse practitioner students from the WVU School of Nursing recently traveled to Honduras as part of a medical mission team. The students worked with the Carolina Honduras Health Foundation (CHHF), a non-profit organization that provides continuity of care by sending 18 teams a year to Honduras to provide care and provide telehealth services.
WVU Research Associate retirement celebration planned for June 30
West Virginia University Health Sciences Research Associate at WVU Health Affairs Institute, Herbert Linn is set to retire at the end of the month after more than three decades in the workforce and 14 years at WVU. Linn has had a profound impact on addressing the opioid overdose epidemic in West Virginia. .

Monogalia County EMS presents Lifesaver Award to WVU School of Nursing student
Mason Solliday, a WVU School of Nursing student, was presented June 11 with the inaugural Lifesaver Award from Monongalia County EMS. Officials said Mason’s fast-acting efforts to perform CPR on his friend Grant made all the difference in his full recovery.
WVU’s Faith Community Nursing efforts receive $12,800 grant from Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon
The Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon has awarded the WVU School of Nursing a $12,800 grant to help build nurse-led access to care points within West Virginia faith community settings.
WVU in the News: Full Interview: WVU student who saved friend’s life with CPR
A West Virginia University student and Monongalia County paramedics were honored on Wednesday for their quick action that helped save a teenager’s life. Back in February, Mason Solliday, a sophomore nursing student at WVU, gave his friend CPR after he suffered a cardiac emergency outside the MountainLair on WVU’s Morgantown campus. Solliday continued CPR until first responders arrived and took over and was “integral” in saving his friend’s life, according to paramedics.
